This talk will start with a historic review of the efforts to make networks more programmable and continue with a description of the state-of-the-art in the emerging Software Defined Network (SDN) technologies. It will then highlight several key concepts, discuss the relationship between SDN and other technologies, such as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and introduce an open-source SDN controller. It will finish with the discussion of open challenging issues in this research area.
