SICSA Qualitative Data event – Edinburgh Napier University, Merchiston Campus, 21st November 2012 starting at 10am

Qualitative Data, it sounded easy when I read the book.

Do you want to know how to analyse video?
Do you know where to start with conversational analysis?
Are you drowning in data and looking for a place to start?

Qualitative approaches have become increasingly fashionable in computing research but also have an air of mystique. This one day event at Edinburgh Napier University will introduce you to researchers who regularly utilise qualitative methods and aims to give practical insights into their use. It’s also an excellent opportunity to meet research students from across Scotland who are using or planning to use qualitative approaches.

The day will start with a session from Eric Laurier http://www.ericlaurier.co.uk/ who will discuss approaches on video analysis and his research work.

Following that will be a session with Catriona Macaulay http://www.dundee.ac.uk/djcad/staff/catrionamacaulay/ who will discuss methods of design ethnography.

After lunch we are having a ‘Bring Your Own Data session.’ This gives anyone with data an opportunity to show it in a friendly environment and get informed and expert guidance on potential approaches to analysing it.
To book a place contact Tom Flint t.flint@napier.ac.uk. If you want to bring some data, please indicate this in your email.
