This masterclass will address computational methods for automatically extracting social and conversational meaning, mainly from conversational speech but also from text. We will explore lexical variation in these contexts and discuss general computational models for combining cues from speech and text for detection, with special attention to prosodic, acoustic, and repair/disfluency structure. Applications will include automatic determination of register (formality, audience), intention, propositional attitude, positioning and accommodation.
Refreshments will be provided on the day with a wine and canapes reception to follow from 17:30-18:30.
