Prof. Jon Oberlander from the School of Informatics, Edinburgh will run a thesis writing workshop.


Open to all Scottish PhD students in computer science and informatics.

Lunch will be provided.

Course Description:
Writing your thesis is a major part of your PhD studies, and can seem very overwhelming. This course provides advice and information on how to write a thesis and prepare for the examination process. Jon Oberlander is the Director of SICSA and has a great deal of experience supervising and examining PhD theses.

Course Content:
    * Submission & examination timetable and organisation

    * Thesis format and binding regulations

    * Planning, writing and reviewing the thesis

    * How to prepare a successful thesis

    * Preparing for and surviving the viva

    * Dealing with any corrections or modifications to the thesis

Who Should Attend:

This course is aimed at students working for a PhD and we expect most participants to be in their 2nd year or near the start of their 3rd year in their PhD. The course also contains information that will be useful to those who have already begun writing up.
