There is an increasing realisation that the engineering of complex systems must be informed by a detailed consideration of both social and technical issues. The problems of managing large public healthcare procurements, such as the NHS Connecting for Health initiative illustrate one aspect of the integration between these two issues. Similarly in the domain of security, advances in cryptographic algorithms are of little benefit if end users do not understand or follow security policies. The next meeting of the Socio-Technical Systems Scotland group will focus on two application areas. In the morning we will look at security. In the afternoon, the focus will be on healthcare. We would welcome as many people as possible to stay for both to help transfer ideas.

The intention is to provide a relatively open agenda with scope for discussion. If you would like to present your work or attend the meeting then please email the organisers at the address given above before the 13th April.

Acknowledgement: There is no charge for attending this meeting. It is supported by the Scottish Informatics and Computing Science Alliance (SICSA) with help from the Scottish Funding Council.
