About Us

Vision and activities

The Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance will:

  • Deliver globally competitive capabilities
  • Catalyse new collaborations
  • Exploit critical mass in funding, recruitment and commercialisation
The SICSA research cluster has been formed to co-ordinate a critical mass of research excellence rivalling Boston, Pittsburgh, Kyoto and Silicon Valley.
 
We pursue our vision by engaging in a number of activities. 

Vision

Our goal is to sustain and expand Scotland's research excellence in Informatics and Computer Science.
 
We will exploit and enhance the research capabilities and reputation of the world-leading Scottish universities to promote an international presence in this research field.

Activities


SICSA's overall research activities are focussed on our:

  • Research themes, for securing, interfacing, modelling and engineering the systems of tomorrow.

Our training activities involve:

  • The Graduate Academy, which offers prize studentships, PhD training, summer schools, graduate symposia, and a distinguished visitor programme.

Our entrepreneurship activities involve: 

  • Knowledge Transfer, including entrepreneurship training, venture creation, and a range of business development support.

Status

Institutions have already invested 67M pounds in ICS capital projects, with 30+ new staff in SICSA areas.

A proposal for further investment of 29M pounds (at 50 per cent funding) from 2008-2013 has been funded by SFC.
