From the people who brought you previous #BuildTheBBC events across London and Salford, comes an evening of tech talks focussed on the teams in Glasgow and their challenges and how they deliver their products to the nation. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in learning more about the work the teams create for the BBC from the amazing Pacific Quay office; and the challenges that the BBC Design + Engineering department face.

The evening will consist of talks from the BBC Design + Engineering teams in Glasgow along with food/refreshments and the chance to network. You’ll hear from Platform, Voice and Education.

The talks will take place at BBC Pacific Quay, Glasgow on 11^th June from 17.30-21.00.

Applications are invited from members of academic staff working within any SICSA member institution for the role of SICSA Research Theme Leader.  There are two positions available:

1. SICSA Research Theme Leader for Artificial Intelligence
2. SICSA Research Theme Leader for Human Computer Interaction

We are pleased to announce that registration is open for DemoFest 2018, which takes place on 6th November (4-7pm) at Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.  SICSA DemoFest is the largest event of its kind in Scotland. Now in its 11th year, it showcases the very best of Informatics and Computing Science research from all of Scotland’s Universities. 

DemoFest provides a perfect opportunity for your organisation to experience first-hand, the innovative research taking place in Scottish Universities. Our exhibitors will talk about their research, tell you why it’s important to your organisation, and demonstrate their technology working in real-time.

The event also provides a space for you to discuss future collaborations, business opportunities, internships, employment opportunities and much more.

DemoFest 2018 will focus on the following key areas: 

• Artificial Intelligence
• Big Data
• Cyber-Security
• Networking & The Cloud
• Robotics and Autonomous Systems
• Understanding Complex Systems
• User-Experience

The 2018 event will feature: 

• Exhibition hall with 50 technology demonstrations from 14 Scottish Universities

DemoFest is organised by SICSA in partnership with ScotlandIS.

The SICSA Cyber Virtual Innovation Hub can provide researchers in Cyber Security with funding to explore work that could lead to commercial opportunities.

Successful applicants will be able to use the funding on offer to explore new ideas, develop commercial potential, produce demonstrators and materials, and develop work to be taken to a stage where it is investment-ready.  Funding can be used flexibly, according to the needs of the researchers and/or companies involved.

Funding can be used flexibly but examples include: 

• A contribution towards time for researchers to engage with the project;
• Travel and accommodation to support the project;
• Equipment or software licenses

The next deadline for applications for this funding is 31^st May.  Please see check SICSA Cyber Nexus for details and a short application form.

The SICSA Cyber Nexus is able to provide bursaries of up to £3000 per applicant for researchers in Cyber Security at SICSA institutions to take part in research visits to anywhere in the UK or abroad. Exchanges can be with other academic institutions, or with the private and public sectors.  Successful applicants can use the funding for:

• Travel
• Accommodation and Subsistence
• Childcare costs coming as a result of the exchange

This is a great opportunity to begin or continue a research collaboration with academia or industry and we can also offer funding for reciprocal visits.

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the SICSA PhD Conference 2018, which will take place at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen on 28th and 29th June 2018.

The event will feature keynote talks from Professor Bill Buchanan (Edinburgh Napier University) and Andrew Richards (CEO Codeplay).
